KC, Regi, Holy Cross atill to taste defeat

Posted: May 4th, 2015 @ 11:18pm

Four different players shared the scoring Monday as the Kingston Blues defeated the Granite Ridge Gryphons 4-0 in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior boys soccer game played at La Salle Secondary School.

Isaac MacFayden, Graeme Workman , Mark Lappan and Sam Shore scored for the Blues, who remain undefeated five games into the season. Lappan, with six goals this year, has scored in four of his team’s five games.

The win enabled the Blues to maintain their three-point lead atop the league standings over the Holy Cross Crusaders and Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers, both of whom stretched season-long undefeated streaks to four games Monday—the Crusaders by blanking the visiting Sydenham Golden Eagles 3-0 and Regi by gaining a 5-0 win over the Marie-Rivier Dragons.

At Holy Cross, Santiago Rivera scored once and Gianluca Venditti once for the Crusaders, while goalkeeper Nick Varey posted the shutout.

Damon Matos scored twice to lead Regi to the home-field victory. R.J. Kameka, Dylon Mason and Joe Ghabros also scored for the Panthers.

Elsewhere Monday, Matt Flood scored the only goal of the game as the Bayridge Blazers, 3-1-1, moved past Frontenac into sole possession of fourth place with a 1-0 home-field victory over the Falcons, and the Ernestown Eagles defeated the La Salle Black Knights 4-0.

Among the games when play resumes Thursday is a match of unbeaten teams that could determine who finishes first, between KC and Regi at Brother O'Gara Field at 3:30 p.m.
