Crusaders defeat Regi in final game of the season

Posted: May 11th, 2015 @ 8:47pm

Holy Cross Crusaders got a pair of goals from Justin Lafrance, one of them on a penalty kick, as they defeated the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers 3-1 on the final day of the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior boys soccer season.

In the annual Father Stan Kurusumuthu Challenge game, played this year at Miklas-McCarney Field, Holy Cross got its other goal from Santiago Rivera on a free kick.

Sam Meyers scored for Regi.

The victory gave unbeaten Holy Cross, 5-0-1, second place, two points ahead of Bayridge, which had already completed its season at 4-1-1. Regi finished fourth at 4-2.

In Monday’s other game, the Loyalist Lancers claimed sixth place with a 2-1 home-field win over the Napanee Golden Hawks. The win boosted Loyalist, 3-3, past both Napanee and Ernestown, who ended the regular year tied at 2-3-1.

Napanee will be placed seventh by virtue of a 3-0 win over the Eagles last week.

Wednesday’s quarter-finals will pit Napanee against the first-place Kingston Blues, Ernestown against Holy Cross, Loyalist against Bayridge and Frontenac, 3-2-1, against Regi at locations and times to be announced.
