Bayridge prevails in quarter-final shootout

Posted: May 13th, 2015 @ 11:39pm

Some key saves by goalkeeper Matt Makin boosted the Bayridge Blazers to a 3-2 shootout victory over the Loyalist Lancers in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior boys soccer quarter-final game Wednesday afternoon at Bayridge.

The win sends the Blazers into a semifinal match Tuesday at Holy Cross, against a team of Crusaders that dispatched the Napanee Golden Hawks with a 3-0 win in their quarter-final game.

Tuesday's other semifinal will pit the regular-season champion Kingston Blues against the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers. KC got goals from six different players in a 6-2 quarter-final win Wednesday over the Ernestown Eagles, while Regi edged the Frontenac Falcons 1-0.

In a game at Mikas-McCarney Field, Holy Cross got two goals—one of them on a bicycle kick—from Justin LaFrance. Adam Alcorn scored the Crusaders’ other goal, while Nick Varey posted the shutout.

Playing on Tindall Field, KC won its seventh game in a row, with Dana Lew, Emile Flavin, Sam Shore, Ben Posthumus, Mark Lappan and Isaac McFayden sharing the scoring. Dorian Overlaw scored both Ernestown goals.
