Something will happen Thursday that hasn’t happened yet this spring in a senior boys high-school soccer match—either the Kingston Blues or Holy Cross Crusaders will lose.

A showdown of the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association’s two undefeated senior sides emerged from the semifinals Tuesday, as KC blanked the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers 1-0 and Holy Cross defeated the Bayridge Blazers 3-0.

KC and Holy Cross will meet for the league title Thursday, 1 p.m., at Miklas-McCarney Field.

The Blues, who finished first in the regular season at 6-0, got there on the strength of a goal 20 minutes into the second half by Ben Posthumus, who banked a 22-yard shot off the cross-bar and into the Regi net.

KC’s defence was again outstanding, as the Blues posted their fifth shutout in eight games this season.

At Miklas-McCarney Field, Holy Cross, 5-0-1 in the regular year, got goals from Adam Alcorn, Gianluca Venditti and Justin LaFrance. Nick Varey posted the clean sheet, the Crusaders’ fourth in their last five games.

Holy Cross has surrendered just one goal since April 29, and only three in eight games all year.

KC and Holy Cross did not meet in the regular schedule, and each goes into Thursday’s final having survived a scare.

The Blues got theirs in a 3-2 win April 29 over a Bayridge team that was also undefeated to that point. The Crusaders got theirs the following week, in a scoreless draw with seventh-place Ernestown, a tie that stands as the only blemish on the Holy Cross record this year.
