Queen’s Golden Gaels have named Alex Vertuello as the football team's new offensive co-ordinator.
Vertuello replaces Ryan Sheahan, who took the job of offensive co-ordinator of the Calgary Dinosaurs in April.
A graduate of Bishop’s University, Vertuello coached for two years in the CEGEP system in Quebec and he served as an assistant coach with the Montreal Carabins before coming to Queen’s last year to study in the Faculty of Education. He was an “offensive assistant” on the football team’s staff last year.
Also Monday, the Gaels announced that Ben D’Andrea has been named to the football team’s coaching staff, with unspecified responsibilities.
D’Andrea, a five-year member of the Gaels, was a defensive back with the 2009 Vanier Cup championship team, who served on the staff of the Ottawa Gee-Gees in 2014. His father, Jim, was a co-captain of the 1978 national champion Gaels.
