Grenadiers return home for Saturday match

Posted: June 12th, 2015 @ 3:47pm

Kingston Grenadiers will be seeking their first home win of the Ontario Varsity Football League season Saturday afternoon when they host the York-Simcoe Bucs at Loyalist Collegiate.

Game time is 4 o’clock.

The Grenadiers suffered a last-minute 28-27 defeat in their season opener, but they’ve rebounded with a pair of wins on the road, most recently 31-13 over the Cornwall Wildcats last Saturday.

The Grens will be aiming to escape a six-team logjam in second place in the Wettges Conference, all with two wins, a game or a game and a half behind conference-leading Ottawa Myers Riders.

Of those six teams, the Grenadiers are averaging the fewest points per game—22—and they’re likely licking their lips at the prospect of facing the winless Bucs, who have allowed 125 points in their two games.

York-Simcoe was waxed 72-0 by Ottawa in its most recent game, last weekend.

Saturday’s varsity game will be the second of a doubleheader that commences at 1 p.m. when the junior varsity Grenadiers, also 2-1, face their York-Simcoe counterparts, who, like their varsity brethren, are also winless after two games.
