Kingston’s Abi Tripp posted her third fourth-place finish of the Parapan American Games Tuesday night, in the final of the women’s 200-metre medley for swimmers with an SM8 disability.

Tripp finished the race in 3 minutes 7.93 seconds, almost five seconds faster than the time she posted in the morning, when she was second in her heat at 3:12.38. That time was the fourth-fastest in qualifying.

American Mallory Weggemann won the gold medal, with a personal-best time of 3:02.14. Tripp was the third Canadian to touch the finish pad.

Earlier Tuesday, Tripp, 14, finished fourth in the final of the women’s 100-metre breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1 minute 42.59 seconds, four seconds from a spot on the podium. Canadian teammate Katarina Roxon won the race in a personal-best time of 1:22.18.

On Sunday, Tripp was fourth in the 50-metre freestyle.

Earlier Tuesday, Christopher Sergeant-Tsonos of Kingston finished sixth in the men’s 100-metre breaststroke for SB8 competitors. His time, 1:32.41, was more than a second faster than the time he posted in the morning, when he finished second in his heat with the fifth-fastest time overall.

In the final, Sergeant-Tsonos was 14 seconds behind gold medalist Facundo Lazo of Argentina.

Tripp will resume competition Thursday in the women’s S8 100-metre freestyle. Sergeant-Tsonos will contest the same event for men.
