Former Queen’s Golden Gaels quarterback Tom Denison threw two touchdown passes Saturday to lead the Greater Toronto All-Stars to a 32-22 victory over the Ottawa Invaders in the championship game of the Northern Football Conference at Centennial Stadium in Etobicoke Saturday.
Denison, the two-time Hec Crighton Trophy winner at Queen’s, completed 18 of 32 passes for 174 yards. He also threw two interceptions. His touchdown passes, of three and seven yards, respectively, to Rickey Clarke and Isaiah Wiltshire, in the middle of the first half, turned an early four-point deficit into a 10-point lead.
A touchdown by Jahmeek Murray on a five-yard run early in the fourth quarter gave the GTA team a 12-point lead. Murray, Atlantic University Sport rookie of the year at Saint Mary’s in 2008, finished with a game-best 119 yards rushing from 19 carries.
The Northern Conference, an 11-team amateur senior league, marked its 60th season in 2015.
The All-Stars will host the Alberta champion, to be determined in a game Sept. 12, for the Canadian championship on Saturday, Sept. 26.
