Mike Bashall, the former Kingston Grenadier and Sydenham Golden Eagle, made his debut with the junior Ottawa Sooners Saturday, kicking a 37-yard field goal in a losing cause as the Sooners dropped a 44-9 decision to the two-time defending Ontario Football Conference champion Windsor AKO Fratmen at Carleton’s Keith Harris Stadium.
Bashall also handled kickoff duties for the Sooners, three of 58 yards each, but he was wide on a second field goal attempt.
Joey Macdonald, the former Holy Cross Crusader from Napanee, was Ottawa’s top receiver, catching four passes for 34 yards. Nick Gorgichuk, late of the Carleton Ravens, started the game at quarterback for the Sooners, whose record fell to 1-1.
