A season’s worth of offensive frustration bubbled over for the Queen’s Golden Gaels Saturday, right into the laps of the Royal Military College Paladins.

The Gaels, with but four goals—and no victories—to show for their first four Ontario University Athletics women’s soccer games, got goals from eight different players as they defeated the Paladins 10-0 on a cold, blustery day on the shores of Navy Bay.

Rookie Jenny Wolever and Tara Bartram scored two goals apiece to lead the Gaels, now 1-1-3 going into their next game, Saturday at Toronto.

Wolever scored the game’s first two goals, sending Queen’s on its way to a 7-0 halftime lead. Bartram got both of her goals late in the first half, while Laura Callender, Tianna Lombardo and Rachel Radu also got the best of beleaguered RMC goalkeeper Alexandra Hogg before the intermission.

Jessie de Boer, Regiopolis Notre Dame grad Brittany Almeida and Claudia Glasspoole scored in the second half for Queen’s. Michaila Frawley had not a lot to do to post her second straight shutout for the Gaels, as she was tested just twice.

Hogg, who had given up just three goals in RMC’s first two games, made eight saves, and has made 26 saves for the season.

The Paladins resume play Saturday at Ryerson.

In men’s play Saturday, a goal by Kristian Zanette on a penalty kick in the game’s 76th minute gave Queen’s a 2-1 win over RMC.

Jacob Schroeter opened scoring in the game’s 19th minute for Queen’s, with Graeme Curran pulling the Paladins even before the first half ended.

To the end of the game, RMC was unable to mount a serious threat to tie it. Indeed, Queen’s keeper Taylor Reynolds faced just one shot on goal in the entire match, while Tobin Semple made five saves in the RMC goal.

Queen’s, 1-1-2, will play its next game Saturday in Toronto, while RMC, 0-4, visits Ryerson.
