Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers split their two games Thursday on the opening day of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations field hockey tournament in Peterborough.

In their morning game at Trent University, the Panthers, the fifth-seeded team in the 16-team championship, got a goal in each half to defeat the Haliburton Highlands Red Hawks 2-0. Christina Tavares and Elexis Pereira scored once each for Regi.

In an afternoon game at Sir Sandford Fleming College, Regi fell to Bill Crothers of Unionville 1-0.

The Panthers will conclude their preliminary schedule Friday morning at 9:30 against the No. 4 seed, Mississauga Clarkson. Clarkson won both of its games Thursday, 1-0 over Crothers and 2-1 over Haliburton Highlands.

The top two teams in each of four pools will advance to the quarter-finals, Friday afternoon.
