Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers have reached the semifinals at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations AAA boys volleyball championship tournament in Windsor, after they defeated Louis-Riel of Gloucester in straight sets in a quarter-final match Friday night.
The Panthers, unbeaten in five matches at the 20-team competition, prevailed 28-26, 25-14, 25-22.
Seeded ninth despite a 14-0 record in league and playoff competition—and the fact the Panthers are the defending provincial champions—Regi will face No. 2 Agincourt of Scarborough at 11 a.m. Saturday in one semifinal. Agincourt, also without a loss through five matches at the tournament, ousted Jacob Hespeler of Cambridge, also in straight sets, in its quarter-final Friday night.
In Saturday’s other semifinal, No. 3 St. Michael’s of Toronto will play No. 4 Mississauga. St. Mike’s eliminated the tournament’s top seed, London Oakridge, in its quarter-final Friday.
Earlier, the Panthers finished the preliminary round by beating St. Mike’s 2-1 Friday morning and Waterdown 2-0 (25-11, 25-14) Friday afternoon.
St. Mike’s beat Regi 25-19 in the first set, handing the Panthers just their second set loss of the season, but Regi came back to win the match, 25-23, 15-11.
Holy Cross Crusaders, the second local team at the tournament, failed to win a match in four tries. On Friday, they were defeated 2-0 by both Longfields-Davidson of Ottawa (25-14, 25-20) and Chatham-Kent (25-21, 25-20).

At the AA championship in Kenora, the Kingston Blues, after dropping their first match Thursday, stretched their winning streak to three matches as they defeated Applewood Heights of Mississauga 2-0 (25-14, 25-18) in their final preliminary match Friday.
The Blues, the tournament’s fourth-seeded team, finished the round robin 3-1, second to St. Catharines Eden, which was good for a berth in the championship quarter-finals against No. 10 Saugeen Friday night. Saugeen finished its preliminary round robin 4-0.
