Volleyball Panthers put first loss behind them

Posted: January 14th, 2016 @ 11:41pm

Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers rebounded nicely from their first defeat of the season with a 3-1 win over the Holy Cross Crusaders Thursday in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior girls volleyball match at Holy Cross.

After dropping a 3-1 decision Tuesday to the Kingston Blues, the Panthers won Thursday 25-20, 25-27, 25-17, 25-7.

The Regi attack was led by leftsides Hailey Wolfgram and Emma McLean, who combined for 22 kills. Setter Annie Kennedy effectively ran the offence, with 34 assists.

The win lifted Regi, 7-1, into sole possession of third place, while Holy Cross, 6-2, sits fourth, half a game ahead of the Bayridge Blazers. In a match played Thursday at Bayridge, the Blazers rose to 6-3 with a straight-sets victory over the La Salle Black Knights.

Elsewhere, the Marie-Rivier Dragons blanked the Granite Ridge Gryphons 3-0 in Sharbot Lake; the league-leading Sydenham Golden Eagles remained undefeated with a 3-0 home-court win over the Loyalist Lancers, and Mille-Iles forfeited its match to KC.
