EOSSAA will try again to play basketball Tuesday

Posted: March 1st, 2016 @ 4:18am

The Eastern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior basketball tournaments will conclude Tuesday—one way or another.

The double-A and single-A events, both being played in Brockville, were postponed yet again Monday, apparently due to inclement weather.

The AA tournament, at Thousand Islands Secondary School, pushed back a day by a storm Thursday, was to have concluded Monday. Instead, the Frontenac Falcons and Kingston Blues will play in semifinals Tuesday, at 9:30 and 11 a.m., respectively.

Whether the final gets played will again depend on the weather. If poor road conditions are expected, the championship game will be abandoned. Since both finalists will be going to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations tournament in Timmins next week, the outcome is, in that sense, moot.

The single-A tournament, being played at Brockville Collegiate, was pushed back two days from last Thursday and was to have commenced Monday. Now, it will be a one-day affair, without semifinals.

The six teams will each play a round robin in their respective three-team pools, and the top team in each pool will advance directly to the final. The Kingston Area representatives, the Queen Elizabeth Raiders, will play St. Lawrence of Cornwall in the opening game Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock, and then not play again until 3 p.m. against St. Francis Xavier of Hammond.

The final is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The single-A OFSA tournament is being played in Sault Ste. Marie, starting next Monday.
