Frontenacs 50th
Posted: February 16th, 2013 @ 5:15pm
Today's installment in a daily series that recalls the story of the 1962-63 Kingston Frontenacs, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of their Eastern Professional Hockey League championship season:
Fifty years ago tonight, Saturday, February 16, 1963
One night after a shot from behind the net hit Sudbury goaltender Gerry Cheevers in the back of the leg and bounced into his net for a goal that was pivotal in a 6-2 Kingston win, Cheevers returned the favour as he turned aside 47 shots as the Wolves claimed a 4-2 win at the Community Centre.
Kingston outshot Sudbury 18-12 in the first period but trailed 1-0 after a goal by Gary Jarrett, his first of two that night. Pete Panagabko and Billy Knibbs scored for Kingston.
Hull-Ottawa was idle, so the teams remain tied for first place in the four-team league. Related Articles:
