Three Gaels strutting their stuff at CFL Combine
Posted: March 22nd, 2013 @ 6:55pm
Three members of the Queen's Golden Gaels are among 98 of the nation's top draft-eligible university football players who will be taking part in this weekend's Canadian Football League Combine in Toronto.
Defensive lineman John Miniaci, offensive lineman Josh Prinsen and receiver Justin Chapdelaine were invited to put their talents on display for players, coaches and scouts of the eight CFL teams to evaluate in advance of the league's annual draft May 6.
Players underwent medicals today. Saturday their strength, flexibility and agility will be tested at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Toronto. The camp will conclude Sunday with drills on the field at the University of Toronto's Varsity Centre.
Miniaci, a 6-1, 278-pound tackle, is a two-time Ontario University Athletics all-star and he was a second-team all-Canadian in 2012. A fourth-year history student from St. Michael's College in Toronto, he started as a rookie in Queen's 2009 Vanier Cup season.
Prinsen, from Napanee, was limited to just five games in the 2012 season due to injury. A second-team conference all-star in 2011, the 6-7, 290-pound tackle played high school ball at Holy Cross in Kingston. He's in his fourth year of mining engineering study at Queen's.
Chapdelaine, son of B.C. Lions offensive co-ordinator Jacques Chapdelaine, came to Queen's as a quarterback in 2009. He was a second-team conference all-star receiver in 2012 in just his second season at the position. At 6-feet and 180 pounds, he caught three passes in the 2012 East-West Bowl and 46 passes for 637 yards and four touchdowns in the regular year. His average of 74.4 yards per game ranked him 15th in Canada last year.
