Today's installment in a daily feature that looks back at this date in Kingston junior hockey playoff history.
Thursday, March 29, 1979
Peterborough goaltender Ken Ellacott survives a 17-shot barrage in the third period to preserve a 4-2 victory in Peterborough that gives the Petes a 6-4 lead in the eight-point Ontario Hockey League quarter-final series.
Larry Floyd, Stuart Smith, Anssi Melametsa and Terry Bovair scored for the Petes, while Mark Wichrowski and Brad Hood replied for the Canadians, who played the game without injured goaltender Avelino Gomez, centre Tim Kerr, left winger Perry Anderson, rookie Bernie Nicholls and defenceman Neil Belland.
In their place three Kingston Township Voyageurs, Bill Currie, Rick Wilson and Scott Arniel, acquit themselves well, the Whig-Standard reports.
