Frontenac grad Marshall Ferguson, four Gaels named to play in East-West Bowl

Posted: April 3rd, 2013 @ 12:31pm

Four members of the Queen's Golden Gaels have been named to the East team that will play in the 11th annual East-West Bowl football game, May 11 in London.

Kingston's Marshall Ferguson, a quarterback with the McMaster Marauders, was chosen to play on the West team.

Three members of the Queen's defence - lineman Derek Wiggan, linebacker Sam Sabourin and back Andrew Lue - lead the Gaels' contingent, which is completed by quarterback Billy McPhee.

Ferguson, a Frontenac Secondary School grad, has been a backup for the two-time Yates Cup champion Marauders. In McMaster's national championship season of 2011, Ferguson was undefeated in three games, playing in place of the suspended Kyle Quinlan.

The East-West bowl is a showcase game for players who are eligibile for the 2014 Canadian Football League draft. The East team consists of players from the Atlantic and Quebec conferences, as well as Queen's, Ottawa and Toronto. The West team is made up of players from Canada West and the remaining Ontario universities.
