Today's installment in a daily feature that looks back at this date in Kingston junior hockey playoff history.

As the Kingston Canadians prepare to depart for their Leyden division championship series opener in Ottawa, a scuffle erupts on the team bus. Two players, Ken Linseman and Rob Parent, engage in a shoving match that ended in a fist fight. After order was restored, the Whig-Standard reported, Parent left the bus and drove away. He was coaxed back by Tony McKegney and Mike Crombeen.
Parent and Linseman both played in the game, which the Canadians subsequently lost 4-2. Bob Smith's second goal of the game, with 51 seconds remaining, clinched the victory for the 67's, stretching an Ottawa unbeaten streak to 18 games, covering almost two months since Feb. 13.
"The Canadians showed only a shadow of the form they displayed, game in and game out, in their stunning semifinal series victory over the Sudbury Wolves," Art Wright wrote in the Whig-Standard. "They stopped their relentless skating after the opening period and weren't shooting with the deadly authority they did in outscoring the Wolves 30-18 in the six games that series lasted."
Warren Holmes and Steve Marengere scored the other Ottawa goals, both on power plays. Brian Sproxton and Mike Crombeen scored for Kingston. Sproxton's goal was the only score of the first period and then Ottawa took a 2-1 lead in the second. Holmes' goal, his sixth of the playoffs, at 11:40 of the third period broke a 2-2 deadlock.
