Today in Kingston junior hockey playoff history
Posted: April 4th, 2013 @ 6:34pm
Today's installment in a daily feature that looks back at this date in Kingston junior hockey playoff history.
Sunday, April 4, 1976
An empty-net goal by Jim Roberts, on a shot from inside his own blue line with 12 seconds left in the game, gives the Ottawa 67's a 3-2 victory over the Kingston Canadians before a crowd of 9,009 at the Civic Centre. With the win Ottawa captures the eight-point quarter-final series 9-5.
With the 67's needing just a tie to win the series, the Canadians pulled goaltender Bob Mears for a sixth skater to try and win the game and force an eighth game at home. They couldn't, however, gain the go-ahead goal.
Buddy Clouthier and Doug Wilson scored the other Ottawa goals. Mike Gillis and Mike Crombeen scored for Kingston, with Crombeen's goal in the 14th minute of the second period tying the score 2-2. Related Articles:
