Today in Kingston junior hockey playoff history

Today's installment in a daily feature that looks back at this date in Kingston junior hockey playoff history.
Tuesday, April 14, 1981
After playing two lacklustre games in Sault Ste. Marie to open the series, the Kingston Canadians defeat the Greyhounds 4-3 to tie the eight-point OHL semifinal 5-5.
The Canadians led 2-1 after the first period as Bernie Nicholls, with his first goal of the series, and Scott Howson, on a rebound, beat Sault goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck. Terry Tait scored before the period ended for the Greyhounds and Steve Gatzos tied the game in the second. Nicholls' second goal of the game restored the Kingston lead going into the third period.
After Mike Siltala missed on a breakaway in the first minute of the third, Doug Shedden promptly tied the game on a play that should have given the home team a spark. It didn't, however, as Howson scored 73 seconds later to restore the Kingston lead for good.
"(The save on Siltala's breakaway) was a big save - it should have given us a break," a disappointed Sault coach Terry Crisp told Tim Gordanier of the Whig-Standard. "My bench should have been alive and moved over that, but it wasn't. My bench was dead. We should have been up and roused when a young goalie makes a save like that. That showed what were like tonight."
Mike Moffat made 38 saves in the Kingston goal, including 16 in the third period to preserve he win.
