Friday, April 15, 1977
A sellout crowd of 9,633 at the Civic Centre in Ottawa watches the 67's tie their eight-point OHA Major Junior semifinal series 5-5 with a 5-2 victory over the Kingston Canadians.
Playing what Art Wright described in the Whig-Standard as Kingston's "worst performance since the playoffs opened 11 games ago," the Canadians severely felt the loss of Ken Linseman, still awaiting word on his indefenite suspension, and Mike Crombeen, who underwent knee surgery Wednesday.
Defenceman Moe Robinson's second goal of the game, on a power play at 1:25 of the third period, enabled the Canadians to cut the Ottawa lead to 3-2. Kingston then killed a 70-second two-man disadvantage but a goal by Bob Smith in the sixth minute of the period restored Ottawa's two-goal lead. An empty-net goal by defenceman Buddy Clouthier ended scoring.
Steve Payne, ex-Canadian Ron Davidson and Shane Pearsall scored the other Ottawa goals as the 67's outshot Kingston 42-32.
