Frontenacs 50th
Posted: February 18th, 2013 @ 11:52am
Today's installment in a daily series that recalls the story of the 1962-63 Kingston Frontenacs, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of their Eastern Professional Hockey League championship season:
Fifty years ago today, Monday, February 18, 1963
The week begins with the Frontenacs trailing the first-place Hull Ottawa Canadiens by two points but the Canadiens suffer a setback when Bill McCreary, who has 14 goals and 31 assists in 43 games in Hull-Ottawa, is recalled by Montreal to replace the injured Gilles Tremblay.
Kingston, meanwhile, begins the week with a full complement of defencemen for the first time in a month. Whitey Stapleton has announced that the swelling is down in his knee and he will be ready to play tomorrow night against the St. Louis Braves. Wayne Connelly, however, still has a cast on his broken ankle and is expected to be out for another two weeks. Related Articles:
