Today in Kingston junior hockey playoff history

Today's installment in a daily feature that looks back at this date in Kingston junior hockey playoff history.
Saturday, April 18, 1981
Four times in their eight-year history the Kingston Canadians advance to the semifinals but for the fourth time they fail to advance, as they fall 8-1 to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds before 3,510 fans in the Sault. The Greyhounds win the eight-point series 9-5.
"Once we jumped ahead, then they have to throw their style out the window, what they did all year - get two or three (goals) up on you and bury you with a nice, defensive, controlled game," Sault coach Terry Crisp told the Whig-Standard. "We got (the lead) and then they had to open up to us and that's our style of game, with the shooters we have."
Oddly, it wasn't one of those big shooters who got the Greyhounds underway, but Tony Cella, a player who didn't score a single goal all season. He opened scoring and Doug Shedden's first of two goals gave the home team a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period.
The Hounds, who also got two goals apiece from Ali Butorac and Steve Gatzos, led 4-0 at the end of the second period and capped the rout with three goals in the final four minutes of the game, one of them Gatzos' 13th shorthanded goal of the season. For Butorac, a 50-goal scorer in the regular season who had been largely stifled by the Canadians, the goals were just his second and third of the playoffs.
Ron Francis scored Sault's other goal, while John Goodwin collected four assists. Shawn Babcock scored for Kingston.
