Kings bow 5-3 in preseason finale
Posted: April 28th, 2013 @ 8:36pm
After a sparkling performance in Ottawa Saturday to open their exhibition junior lacrosse schedule, the Kingston Kings turned in a disappointing effort Sunday afternoon at home and lost 5-3 to the Gloucester Griffins.
Playing before about 125 fans at Centre 70, the Kings were a shadow of the team that claimed an 8-6 win Saturday. Lationhahele Tarbell, Logan Rose and Kaleb Bingley scored for Kingston. For rookies Tarbell and Bingley, it was their first junior goal.
Fred Hartley had two goals and two assists for Gloucester, while David Plots had a goal and three assists. Tyler Collins scored the other two goals for the Griffins, who scored just 57 seconds into the game, took a 3-0 lead, led 3-1 after the first period and 4-2 after the second.
The visitors outshot the Kings 38-35.
The Kings allowed just one power-play goal in 10 man-short situations in a game where they would play shorthanded for 20 minutes and 26 seconds, 4:29 of it two men short. They were less successful on the power-play, however, going 0-for-5, failing at one point when they trailed 3-1 and had a man advantage for more than five minutes.
The Kings are idle until their Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League opener, Thursday, May 9, 8 p.m. at Centre 70,when they will again host Gloucester.
In the meantime, the Kings invite fans to come to Boston Pizza on Dalton Avenue for a Celebrity Server event Wednesday when, from 5 to 8 p.m., they can meet and be served by members of the club. The Kings will receive 10 per cent of sales from the event from Boston Pizza. Related Articles:
