Heather Jaros, Leah Hill each win two at Foley Invitational track meet
Posted: May 12th, 2013 @ 10:19pm
Heather Jaros of La Salle and Napanee's Leah Hill were both two-event winners Friday at the Michelle Foley Bay of Quinte Invitational Track and Field meet at the Mary Ann Sills Complex in Belleville.
Jaros won both of her races decisively, winning senior girls 800 metres in 2 minutes 17.94 seconds - with a winning margin of five seconds - and the 1,500 metres in 4 minutes 48.28 seconds, with a time 14 seconds better than the rest of the field.
For the second meet in a row, Hill won both junior girls shot put and discus, with best attempts of 9.38 metres and 30.26 metres, respectively.
Six other Kingston-area athletes won their events at the annual preseason meet.
* After she finished second in the 100 metres, Isabelle Froom of Loyalist won senior girls 200 metres, in 27.26 seconds.
* Johnny Vinkle of Sharbot Lake won senior boys shot, with a put of 13.93 metres.
The other four winners come from Sydenham High School:
* Tyler Cancian had the best time in midget boys 100-metre hurdles, 14.95 seconds;
* Brodie Latimer won junior boys 100-metre hurdles (15.53 seconds) and he was third in the 300-metre hurdles;
* Wade Embury won senior boys 400 metres (49.95 seconds) and he also was third in the 100 metres.
* Third in the midget boys 800 metres, Nicholas Adams won the 1,500 metres in 4 minutes 39.59 seconds.
The toughest team to make in all the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association this year undoubtedly will be the 1,600-metre relay team at Sydenham. The Golden Eagles fielded two teams in the event on Friday and they finished 2-3, the A team finishing in 3 minutes, 45.91 seconds, just two-tenths of a second ahead of the so-called B team.
Other top performers Friday were Sydenham's Brittney Patterson, second in junior girls 80-metre hurdles and third in the 100 metres; Sydenham's Elizabeth Hill, second in senior girls triple jump and third in the 100-metre hurdles; La Salle midget boy Reuben Smith, who was second in the 200 metres and third over 100 metres; and Sydenham's Eric Lusk, third in both the midget boys 100- and 300-metre hurdles.
