Kings facing busy week
Posted: May 14th, 2013 @ 12:32am
Week 2 of the Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League schedule presents a daunting challenge for the Kingston Kings.
After splitting the first two games of the season, the Kings will travel to Clarington Wednesday to meet the two-time defending league champion Shamrox. On Thursday, the Kings return home to host the Whitby Warriors, who took Clarington to the maximum five games before bowing in the Central division final last year.
The Kingston junior club has never beaten either team. The Cavaliers were 0-8 vs. Clarington in two seasons, 2009-10; they were 0-3 against Whitby in 2010.
When the league realigned into three divisions in 2011, Whitby and Clarington were placed in the Central division and the newly renamed Kings found themselves in the six-team East division. When East teams Nepean and Kahnawake suspended operations, the league again realigned this past off-season and the Warriors and Shamrox were shifted to the East.
Kingston opened the season with a 12-9 victory over Gloucester Thursday, but they were beaten 10-2 in Peterborough the next night. With six goals in the two games, Kingston's Josh Smith is the league's early season goal-scoring leader.
Clarington and Whitby played each other in their only game so far, with Clarington emerging with a 6-3 home-floor win.
Game time Thursday at Centre 70 is 8 p.m. Related Articles:
