Kings set to host Gloucester
Posted: May 22nd, 2013 @ 12:45pm
Kingston Kings will be looking for their second victory over the young Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League season - and their second win of the year over Gloucester - when they host the Griffins Thursday night at Centre 70. Game time is 8 o'clock.
The Kings got a scare in their season opener, surrendering six goals in the second period as Gloucester came from behind to take an 8-6 lead. Kingston outscored the Griffins 6-1 in the third period, however, to gain a 12-9 victory. Two weeks and three games later, it stands as the Kings' only win so far this year.
The game was a career-best night, offensively, for Haneh Brant (three goals and six points), Ba Maracle (five assists, six points) and Josh Smith (five goals, six points).
Perennial nemesis Fred Hartley had a similarly productive night for Gloucester, with four goals and an assist. Last year Hartley, who is also the leading scorer on the Gloucester junior B team, played three games against Kingston; Gloucester won two of them as Hartley collected eight goals and seven assists. The Griffins lost all three games he didn't play, mustering just 11 goals altogether.
The Kings lost their last game, a week ago, 12-11 to Whitby. Kingston fell behind 3-0, took a 9-6 lead late in the second period, came back to tie 11-11 in the third period, before giving up the game-winner with two minutes to play. Gloucester, winless in four games this year, was beaten 10-7 in its last game in Brockville Tuesday. Related Articles:
