Posted: May 29th, 2013 @ 12:18am
BROCKVILLE - Kingston Kings erupted for eight goals in the second period and they went on to claim a 13-6 victory over the Brockville Ballistic in an Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League game here Tuesday night.
The win, second in a row for the Kings, evens Kingston's record at 3-3 going into their next game, Thursday night at Centre 70, against the three-time defending champion Clarington Shamrox.
The second period did not start well for the Kings, who led 4-1 after 20 minutes. It took less than six minutes for the Ballistic to tie the score, and they did so with a shorthanded goal by Jarret Pitt at 5:34. Kingston answered before the power play ended, however, with Cole Byvelds' first goal of the year. Just 13 seconds after that, Zach Masterson gave Kingston a two-goal lead.
The fast and furious offensive frenzy continued when Brockville scored to cut the gap to 6-5, but the Kings scored five straight goals before the period ended - two of them with a two-man advantage, 24 seconds apart - to lead 12-5 entering the third period.
The eight goals was the most in a period by Kingston this year.
Kyle Aylesworth led the Kings with three goals and three assists. He now has 12 goals for the season, and leads the league. Jay Waller had a goal and four assists and Haneh Brant two goals and two assists for Kingston. Josh Smith and Logan Rose, with two goals apiece, and Jake Evoy also scored for Kingston.
Pitt, with three, Casey Crooke, Todd Fawcett and Cory Robertson scored for Brockville, which fell to 1-4.
Despite allowing the shorthanded goal, the Kingston power play was superb, scoring five times in seven opportunities. David Joseph made 38 saves for the goaltending victory, as the Kings outshot the home team 50-44. Related Articles:
