Kings whipped by Clarington
Posted: May 31st, 2013 @ 12:01am
Clarington Shamrox scored their goals in bunches as they rolled to a convincing 14-2 Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League victory over the Kingston Kings Thursday night at Centre 70.
A three-goal flurry in a span of 81 seconds late in the first period took a 3-0 game to 6-0. Then, having allowed Clarington just one goal in the first 12 minutes of the second period, the Kings were blitzed for five goals in the next 4:42 as the game dissolved into a rout.
In what was undoubtedly Kingston's poorest effort of the year, the three-time defending Ontario champions outperformed the Kings on any dimension you'd care to mention as they improved their record to 6-0. It was Clarington's second win of the year over Kingston, and the season series ended with the Shamrox outscoring the Kings 25-5.
Clarington is 10-0 against Kingston junior clubs over the past five years.
Keenan Cook led the Shamrox with four goals and four assists. Garrett Williams had three goals and three assists and Wil Stroud had two goals and three assists. Aaron Woods and Courtland Araujo, also with two goals apiece, and Brody Munro, with his first goal of the year, scored the other Clarington goals.
Kyle Aylesworth scored both of Kingston's goals, his league-leading 13th and 14th of the year.
The game was a relatively tame affair, with just nine minor penalties, four of them for unsportsmanlike conduct and another for too many men on the floor. Clarington outshot the home team 49-39, with Josh O'Neil making 37 saves in lowering his goals-against average to 3.33.
Nic McFarlane was in goal for Kingston, which fell to 3-4 and is still looking for its first win against a team above .500 this year.
The Kings will resume play Tuesday, when they visit the winless Gloucester Griffins. Related Articles:
