Posted: August 7th, 2013 @ 1:05am

Two members of the Queen's Golden Gaels Tuesday night helped Ontario into the semifinals of the women's volleyball tournament tomorrow at the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

Niki Slikboer had two kills and she and Queen's teammate Brett Hagarty played in all four sets as Ontario defeated Nova Scotia 3-1 Tuesday night. The winners prevailed in the match 29-27, 25-19, 12-25, 25-23.

Ontario finished third in Pool D with a 3-2 record in preliminary play, while Nova Scotia was second in Pool C with a 3-1 mark.

Ontario will face British Columbia in one semifinal Wednesday, 5:30 p.m., at the University of Sherbrooke's centre sportif. B.C. swept Ontario 3-0 in the final match of the preliminary round.

In the pool Tuesday night, Kingston's Cassidy Tran finished fourth in the final of the women's Special Olympics 100-metre backstroke. Gold medalist in the 50-metre breaststroke Monday, Tran stopped the clock in 1 minute 44.65 seconds, 2.22 seconds faster than the time she posted in Tuesday morning's heats, which was also fourth-best in the field.

In the final Tran was nine and a half seconds behind the winning time, 1:35.25, of Quebec's Miori Hunault. Alberta's Celine Schmidt was comfortably third at 1:37.96.
