Queen's rowers win seven medals at Canada Summer Games

Kingston's Matthew Christie won a silver medal Friday in the men's single sculls at the Canada Summer Games rowing venue on Lake Magog, Que.
Christie completed the course in 7 minutes 24.45 seconds, a little less than five seconds behind the winner, Taylor Perry of New Brunswick. Will Bryden of Nova Scotia was third in 7:26.30.
Cole Findlay, a Queen's University rower competing for Alberta, was third in the consolation final.
Christie's medal was one of seven won by Queen's rowers Friday.
Lark Davenport Huyer of Caledon won two of them. She was part of Ontario's silver-medal winning women's eight, after earlier in the day claiming bronze in the women's quadruple sculls.
British Columbia crews won both races, the eight in 6 minutes 12.03 seconds, 2.96 seconds ahead of Ontario, which in turn was eight and a half seconds ahead of the third-place boat from Quebec. In the quad, B.C. won in 6:40.06, Alberta claimed the silver in 6:47.55 and Ontario was third in 6:50.85.
In the eight, Davenport was a crewmate of fellow Queen's rower Shelby Stinnissen of Peterborough, while Queen's teammate Danielle Abusow of London was also in the boat in the women's quad.
In the men's lightweight four, William Kennedy of Queen's was part of the Alberta crew that was third, six seconds behind the second-place Ontario boat. In the men's quadruple sculls, Stephen Holloway of Queen's was in the Alberta boat that finished third, six seconds behind Ontario and four seconds after B.C.
At Milby Golf Club Friday, Austin James of Bath remains tied for 13th place after 54 holes at nine-over-par 228. James shot a three-over 76 Friday and is nine over par for the tournament.
Kevin Kwon of B.C., with a four-under-par 69 Friday, will take a four-stroke lead into Saturday's final round. He sits at seven-under 212, while Trevor Yu of B.C. and Matt Williams of Alberta are tied for second place at 216.
Kwon was one of two golfers Friday to shoot 69. The other, Jake McNulty of Port Perry, Ont., moved into a tie for sixth place at 223. They were the first sub-70 scores of the tournament.
The seven medals won by the rowers bring to 10 the number of medals won by Kingston-connected athletes as competition heads into the final day Saturday. Earlier, Cassidy Tran of the Kingston Y Penguins won the gold medal in the women's Special Olympics 50-metre breaststroke, Kingston cyclist Anne Foreman-Mackey won the gold medal in the women's cycling time trial and Evan McNeely won silver as part of Ontario's mountain bike relay team.
Saturday, Davenport Huyer will be seeking her third medal of the Games, with Erin Snelgrove in the women's double sculls. Kennedy and his Queen's teammate Scott Macdonald will row in both the men's four and eight, MacDonald for Ontario and Kennedy for Alberta.
Abusow and Holloway will both be bidding for their second Games medal, Abusow in the women's lightweight double sculls and Holloway in the men's heavy double sculls.
