Axemen lose third game at President's Cup lacrosse tourney
Posted: August 28th, 2013 @ 5:46pm
Kingston's connecion to the President's Cup lacrosse tournament in Kahnawake, Que., had four assists Wednesday but it wasn't enough to prevent the Capital Region Axemen from absorbing an 8-5 defeat at the hands of the St. Catharines Saints.
It was the third loss in four games for the Axemen in the round-robin preliminary portion of the national senior B championship, and leaves them with scant hope of making the playoff round of the seven-team tournament.
Tim Bergin, a product of the Kingston minor association and an original member of the Kingston Cavaliers, and Mike Dube, current coach of the junior C Kingston Kings, each had two assists Wednesday for Capital Region.
St. Catharines, the Ontario champion, scored the first three goals of the game and led 3-1 after the first period and 6-3 going into the third. It was the third win, without defeat, for the Saints, who moved into a tie atop the tournament standings with Caughnawaga at 3-0.
Thursday, Capital Region will play the host team Kahnawake Mohawks, the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League champion, at 8 p.m. Related Articles:
