Kingston's Tim Bergin named to all-star team at President's Cup

Posted: September 1st, 2013 @ 8:32pm

Though his team did not make the playoff round, Kingston's Tim Bergin of the Capital Region Axemen was named to the tournament all-star team at the President's Cup in Kahnawake, Que.

Bergin, who led the Axemen with 19 points in six games, was chosen ahead of a number of high-scoring players, including one-time Toronto Rock player Andrew Potter of the St. Catharines Saints and Callum Crawford of the host Kahnawake Mohawks, who had 91 points for Minnesota in the last National Lacrosse League season.

Crawford, coach of the Nepean junior B team in the Ontario Lacrosse Association, had 11 goals and 40 points in seven games at the week-long national senior B lacrosse championship.

Capital Region won one of its six games in the round-robin preliminary round.

Bergin, a product of the Kingston minor lacrosse system, was an original member of the Kingston Cavaliers and led the team in scoring when junior lacrosse returned to Kingston in 2009.

St. Catharines was undefeated in winning the championship at the seven-team tournament, including an 8-5 victory over Kahnawake in Sunday's gold-medal game.
