Falcons improve to 2-0 with win over Bayridge

Posted: September 19th, 2013 @ 6:24pm

Frontenac Falcons took advantage of several Bayridge turnovers Thursday afternoon as they defeated the Blazers 29-0 in the day's only Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior football game.

An interception and a fumble led to the Falcons' two first-quarter touchdowns, scored by Dustin Brogaard and Braeden Stevenhaagen on short runs. The Blazers committed two other turnovers before the first half ended - one on downs, the other after a fumble - and one of them led to a 20-yard field goal by Declan McCann.

Jacob Veenstra had Frontenac's other touchdown, on a 20-yard pass from quarterback Rob Magee, as the Falcons scored a TD each of the first three times they had the football.

McCann kicked another 20-yard field goal before the first half ended with the defending county champions holding a 27-0 lead.

A pair of punt singles by Garrett Dumond completed scoring in the second half.

The win was the second without defeat for Frontenac, while Bayridge fell to 0-2.

Play resumes Friday as the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers, 0-1, visit La Salle, where the Black Knights are 1-0, and the Holy Cross Crusaders will be seeking their first win of the season when they help the Ernestown Eagles open their schedule at Odessa at 4:45.
