Kelsey Murphy leads Holy Cross to second win

Posted: September 24th, 2013 @ 11:09pm

Kelsey Murphy, a Grade 10 student playing senior basketball with the Holy Cross Crusaders, scored 17 points Tuesday to lead her team to a 56-19 win over the Queen Elizabeth Raiders in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association game at Holy Cross.

The Crusaders, 2-0, led 34-9 at halftime.

In other senior games Tuesday, Bridget Way-Brackenbury led all scorers with 13 points but it wasn't enough to prevent the Loyalist Lancers from suffering their first defeat in three games, 42-20 to the La Salle Black Knights; and the Sydenham Golden Eagles evened their record at 1-1 by defeating the winless Granite Ridge Gryphons 40-14.

Way-Brackenbury has averaged better than 14 points per game, and after three games she's accounted for 45 per cent of the Lancers' points.

Jamie Mumby, with 11 points, and Chelsea Van Camp, with nine, led the way for La Salle, which led 25-12 at halftime on the way to its second win in a row.
