No surprises for top teams in senior girls basketball play

Posted: October 4th, 2013 @ 12:08am

The rich got richer Thursday in Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior girls basketball play.

All three undefeated teams - La Salle, Regi and Frontenac - each won for the fifth time this season at the expense of teams that are a collective 1-13.

The visiting Granite Ridge Gryphons were no match for the Falcons at Frontenac, where the home team walked off with a 43-11 victory. The Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers were similarly convincing, taking a 56-13 win over the Queen Elizabeth Raiders out of the gym at QE.

Playing at Bayridge, the La Salle Black Knights defeated the Blazers 46-24.

In a battle of the birds in Odessa, the Sydenham Golden Eagles improved to 4-1 with a 41-24 win over the winless Ernestown Eagles and in the only game involving teams with comparable records, the Holy Cross Crusaders convincingly snapped a two-game losing streak, handing the Loyalist Lancers a 57-15 setback.

LC's third loss in its last four games left the Laners at 3-3, while Holy Cross improved to 3-2.

At QE, Alex Gilmour led the Regi attack with 16 points, while teammate Molly Dixon scored 12.
