Hockey Gaels win sixth straight game

Queen's Golden Gaels remain undefeated in regulation play after a 3-1 Ontario University Athletics hockey victory Saturday night over the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.With their sixth-straight win, the No. 8-ranked Gaels improved to 12-0-5 and they remain four points ahead of McGill, 4-2 winner Saturday night over Ontario Tech, atop the East division standings.The fifth-ranked Redmen will visit the Gaels next Saturday night.Queen's pumped 52 shots at Laurier goaltender Vinny Merante but the outcome remained in doubt until Corey Bureau scored an empty-net goal with just four seconds to play.Patrick McGillis had a goal and an assist for Queen's, which got its other goal, the eventual game-winner, from Jordan Coccimiglio in the third minute of the second period.After allowing Laurier to score the first goal of the game, Chris Clarke made 33 saves for the goaltending victory as the Hawks, last-place team in the West division, fell to 5-9-1.In the best start to a season in the history of the Queen's hockey program, the Gaels have had 10 of their 16 games - the other was a forfeit win over Ryerson - decided by a single goal. Their largest margin of victory is three goals, which they've achieved four times.Queen's hasn't lost since a 2-1 setback - on a goal with eight seconds left in overtime - Nov. 16 at Western. After starting the season 3-0-4, the Gaels have won nine of their last 10.Queen's resumes play Friday night when it will host the Carleton Ravens at the Memorial Centre. Game time is 7:30.
