Posted: January 12th, 2014 @ 12:09am
A goal by Shawna Griffin at 3:11 of overtime gave the Queen's Golden Gaels a 2-1 win over the York Lions in an Ontario University Athletics women's hockey game Saturday night in Toronto.
It was Griffin's 10th goal of the year.
Alisha Sealey's first goal of the year opened scoring for Queen's in the game's 24th minute. Lindsay Cochrane scored for York midway through the third period to tie the game.
Mel Dodd-Moher gained the goaltending win, as the Gaels outshot York 45-24.
With the win, No. 4-ranked Queen's improved to 13-2-3 and moved two points ahead of idle Wilfrid Laurier atop the conference standings. York fell to 4-11-2.
The Gaels are idle until Jan. 24, when they will host Waterloo.
