Three local athletes in national track rankings

Blair Morgan is the top-ranked Kingston athlete in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport track and field rankings released Friday.
Morgan, an Ernestown Secondary School grad now studying at McMaster, is listed third among the nation's male intercollegiate runners in the 3,000 metres, with a season-best time of 8 minutes 29.28 seconds, six seconds off the Canadian best time of Laval's Jean-Samuel Lapointe.
Sixth in Ontario and 11th in Canada at the university cross-country championships in November, Morgan is currently the alternate for Canada's FISU team bound for the world university cross-country meet in Uganda in March.
Two Sydenham High School grads have had results this season that are among the top performances in Canada this year, according to the rankings.
Wade Embury, a freshman at the University of Ottawa who won three medals at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championships in May, is ranked seventh in the 300 metres (35.22 seconds) and eighth over 800 metres (1 minute 22.67 seconds).
Julie Sleeth, the 2007 OFSAA junior shot put champion now competing for Western, has the sixth-best effort this year in the women's weight throw, 15.39 metres.
Queen's is unranked in the Top 10 teams for either men or women.
The national intercollegiate championships will be held in March in Edmonton.
