No word on new stadium, defensive co-ordinator at Queen's

TORONTO - Memories and good cheer were shared in abundance Saturday night in Toronto but there was no white smoke emanating from either of the Queen's football team's chimneys when players past, present and future, parents, coaches and alumni gathered for the third annual Gael Force fundraising dinner.
In an address to the faithful, principal Daniel Woolf spoke of the need to replace aging Richardson Stadium but he offered no timetable for doing so. Instead he spoke of the possibility of a potential "lead donor" being identified to kick-start the campaign.
It's been mentioned that $25 million of the $33 million fields-and-stadium component of the university's current capital campaign will be needed to replace 42-year-old Richardson Stadium, much of which was structurally condemned as unsafe last summer.
Neither was there any announcement with respect to who will be the football team's new defensive co-ordinator. Among the four men shortlisted for the job of replacing Pat Tracey are one former CFL coach, at least one person with a long-standing link to Queen's and a promising young applicant from another Canadian university program.
In January Tracey was named special teams co-ordinator of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers after 14 seasons as the top defensive coach at Queen's.
About 600 people attended Saturday night's $150-a-plate gala at the Montecassino Hotel in Toronto. In addition to current players, former players going back almost 50 years - including members of all four of Queen's national championship teams - were present.
Former Queen's football player Rod Smith of TSN was emcee. Troy McAllister, a La Salle Secondary School grad and another former Gael, gave a moving keynote address about his experience coaching football at an inner city Chicago high school.
