Knights bound for OFSAA after winning EOSSAA boys AA hockey tourney

Posted: March 5th, 2014 @ 1:22am

A stirring comeback and some splendid goaltending by Kenton Carmody helped the La Salle Black Knights capture the Eastern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association boys AA hockey championship Tuesday in Rockland.

After a 3-0 win over South Grenville in the first game of round-robin play, La Salle found itself facing Embrun in a game coach Steve Hickling suspected might be the one that ultimately would determine the EOSSAA champion.

Down 2-0 going into the third period, the Knights couldn't afford just a tie because in that scenario Embrun would be favoured, thanks to its 7-0 win over South Grenville. La Salle scored three times in the final period for a 3-2 victory that sent the Knights into the tournament final against the host team from Rockland.

For the second time in three games Carmody was flawless, and the Knights earned their OFSAA berth with a 4-0 victory.

The provincial A/AA championship will be contested March 18-21 in Burlington and Oakville.
