Frontenacs Darcy Greenaway among six hockey recruits who commit to Queen's

Queen's Golden Gaels hope they've addressed their Achilles heel with the signing of two established goal scorers from the Ontario Hockey League.
Darcy Greenaway of the Kingston Frontenacs and Eric Ming of the Niagara Ice Dogs are among six recruits whose signing for the 2014-15 Ontario Hockey League season was announced Tuesday.
Greenaway, 21, a hometown product whose family resides in Wilton, has scored 86 goals in his OHL career, including a season-best campaign with the Frontenacs this year of 35 goals and 62 points. A part-time student at Queen's, he'll be studying arts full-time in the fall.
Ming, a 20-year-old right wing from Williamstown, Ont., blossomed this year, his fourth in the OHL. After scoring just 14 times for the Kitchener Rangers in his first three years in the league, Ming scored 32 times in 49 games this year with Niagara.
The necessity of improving the offence of a team that scored just 83 goals in 28 regular-season games - and bowed in the second round of playoffs after scoring just nine times in five post-season contests - was apparent.
The Gaels had just two players score more than eight goals this year and no one score more than 11. That meant that Queen's, which allowed just 57 goals in the regular year - best in the league by 10 goals, and second-best in Canada - finished just six games over .500.
"I cannot express how excited I am," Gaels coach Brett Gibson said of the six incoming freshmen, in a release. "It is still very early in the recruiting season and to have these calibre of players commit (to Queen's) shows how excited they are about the direction of our program."
Two other OHL players have confirmed their intention to attend Queen's in the fall: Spencer Abraham of the Erie Otters and Brett Foy of the Mississauga Steelheads. The others in the group announced Tuesday are twin brothers Brendan and Jeff Kennedy of Terrace, B.C., who spent the last three years playing for the Salmon Arm SilverBacks of the junior A British Columbia Hockey League.
Defenceman Abraham, who turned 21 on the day his wish to attend Queen's was announced, split his four years in the OHL with Brampton and Erie. This year with the Otters, the Burlington native had eight goals and 35 points - both career bests - and was plus-29 on a team that had the second-best record in the league.
The current captain of the Steelheads, Foy, a 21-year-old centre from Niagara Falls, had 11 goals in each of his three seasons in the OHL, and this year had a career-best 26 points. In his three major-junior seasons, he missed just eight games.
Jeff Kennedy is a forward who had eight goals and 18 points in 50 games with the Salmon Arm club this year. Brendan Kennedy, a defenceman, scored once and had 11 assists in 47 games.
