Teams feast or endure famine in senior girls soccer play

Posted: April 26th, 2014 @ 6:40pm

The rich got a little richer and the poor remained bankrupt, as far as wins are concerned, in Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior girls soccer play Friday, as the four winners all remain undefeated and the four losers all left the field still seeking their first win.

At the Queen's University West Campus field, Sara Edgar scored both goals and Kristin Treitz posted the shutout as the La Salle Black Knights improved to 2-0 with a 2-0 win over the Napanee Golden Hawks.

Evie Streight and Alex Wiley each scored twice as the Kingston Blues, 2-0, spoiled the Bayridge Blazers' season opener with a 9-1 victory at Tindall Field. Kaya Anyoti, Katey Gilmour, Anne LeBlanc, Joelle Malcolm and Maria Tsinaridis scored the other goals for KC.

Hana Gazdik scored the first goal of the game and she set up the only goal of the second half as the Frontenac Falcons kept pace with the league leaders by defeating the Ernestown Eagles 3-0 at the upper West Campus field. Jenna MacLean, in the first half, and Addie Rasmussen, in the second, scored the other goals from Fronteanc, which received shutout goaltending from Anne Wagar.

Emily Rowsell scored three goals in the first half as the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers opened their season with a 6-0 win over the winless (0-2) Loyalist Lancers. With goals by Mikayla Rostek and Natalie Blasko, the Panthers opened a 5-0 lead by halftime and coasted to the victory. Regi completed scoring with a goal by Kaitlyn Balfour on a long shot in the second half.

In her KASSAA debut, Kristina Nuvoloni gained the shutout.
