Crusaders move into sole possession of first place; female Dragons gain first win

Holy Cross Crusaders got goals from four different players Wednesday as they handed the Sydenham Golden Eagles their first defeat of the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Associations senior boys soccer season, a 4-1 decision on a rain-soaked Queen's University West Campus field.
Nick Gallagher, Adam Alcorn, Santiago Rivera and Devon Christian scored once each for Holy Cross.
With the win, the Crusaders, 4-0, took sole possession of first place, thanks also in part to the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers, who gained a 1-1 tie with the Frontenac Falcons, who had shared first place at the beginning of the day, also at 3-0.
Regi, now 2-0-1, remains in the conversation for first place, and they'll have more to say more about it Monday when they face Holy Cross at Caraco Field.
In other games Wednesday, the Granite Ridge Gryphons enhanced their playoff chances with a 5-1 win over the Marie-Rivier Dragons; the Kingston Blues defeated the La Salle Black Knights 4-2 and the Loyalist Lancers gained their first win of the season, 2-1 over the Ernestown Eagles.
Playing at Tindall Field, Travis Tyson scored two goals for Granite Ridge as the Gryphons improved to 2-2. Luke Asselstine, Nathan Domen and Taylor Meeks shared the other goals for the winners, as Marie-Rivier, 0-4, got its only goal from Vincent Leagult.
Mark Lappan scored twice and Ben Postumus and Isaac McFayden scored once each as KC boosted its record to 2-1-1. Shawn Miller and Taniyan Wesley scored for La Salle.
Loyalist joined the party of three sharing eighth place and the final playoff spot with its win at Machin Field. Nial Geum and Kaelan Ingersoll scored for the Lancers, who, like La Salle and Ernstown, are all 1-3. Justin Elson scored the lone goal for the Eagles.

In Wednesday's only senior girls game, Marie-Rivier, blanked in its first two games, erupted for its first win of the season, claiming a 7-0 victory over winless Granite Ridge.
