Marie-Rivier team claims medal at OFSAA badminton
Posted: May 4th, 2014 @ 3:55pm
Paul Briggs and Cole Gillespie of Marie-Rivier won the C Flight silver medal in boys doubles competition Saturday on the final day of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations badminton championship tournament at Markham.
Briggs and Gillespie lost their first two matches of the three-day event, then rallied with two consecutive wins before bowing in the C final to the brother team of Ross and Paul Duquette from Cobourg East.
The medal was the second this spring at a provincial competition by athletes from Marie-Rivier, the smallest school in the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association, with 148 students. In March, Sebastien Michaud won a bronze medal in the open boys 100-metre backstroke at the OFSAA swim championships in Brantford.
