Andrew Lue, Scott Macdonell, Max Caron among top 16 players chosen in CFL draft

Andrew Lue spent Tuesday evening at home in Markham, hanging out with his family. A few old friends popped over for a visit.
"A few guys I used to play football with," Lue said, "so there's going to be a lot of reminiscing on the good times, I'm sure."
Doubtless there was some speculating on the future going on, as well, since as of Tuesday night the all-Canadian defensive back from Queen's was a member of the Montreal Alouettes.
The Alouettes chose the Golden Gaels star with the first pick of the second round, the 10th pick overall, in the annual Canadian Football League draft. Lue was the second DB chosen - after Montreal's Antoine Pruneau, who is projected by the league as a defensive back though he was actually a second-team all-Canadian linebacker in 2013 - and he was the second player selected from Ontario University Athletics, after Western linebacker Beau Landry.
Before the second round was complete, Lue's teammate at Queen's, receiver Scott Macdonell, and Frontenac Secondary School grad Max Caron, the Concordia linebacker, were also selected, MacDonell 13th overall by the expansion Ottawa RedBlacks, and Caron three picks later by the Calgary Stampeders.
Two more Gaels were chosen in the draft: All-Canadian defensive lineman Derek Wiggan, late in the fourth round, by Calgary, and defensive back Matt Webster, early in the fifth round, by Saskatchewan.
It was a bumper crop of draftees for the Gaels, who did not have anyone picked in the 2103 draft.
Back home in Markham, Lue said he was simply enjoying the moment. "I'm very excited right now," he said. "It's all still sinking in."
Lue recalled the day as a long one as he tried not to let the suspense drive him crazy.
"I tried to stay busy," he said. "I trained in the morning, then I came back tried to get out of the house, walk the dog, do little miscellaneous, monotonous stuff. I was just really anxious until tonight.
"It seemed to drag out a bit, but I guess it added to the whole anticipation of the event so I can't complain, right?
Lue sees himself fitting well in Montreal.
"It's a great organization," he said. "It's a great city. I think it's one of the best fits I could have had. I can't ask for much more.
"I'm excited to get it going. I'm happy to have the opportunity to play for them."
At the CFL scouting combine in March, Lue interviewed with representatives of all nine teams but he detected special scrutiny from the Alouettes.
"Speaking to them, after the testing, running into them, I could definitely tell there was interest. It got me very excited."
Macdonell, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound Commerce grad from Montreal, established personal bests in receptions (30), receiving yards (441) and touchdowns (four) with the Gaels in 2013. His stock is said to have soared after an outstanding weekend at the combine.
Though he was never a conference all-star, Macdonell was the second receiver selected, after St. Francis Xavier's Devon Bailey and ahead of second-team all-Canadian Evan Pszczonak of Windsor, who went in the sixth round to Toronto.
Caron, the 2011 winner of the Presidents Trophy as the outstanding defensive player in Canada, was the second linebacker chosen, after Landry of Western.
