A goal in overtime by Bobby Cummings lifted the Sydenham Golden Eagles to a 2-1 win over the Bayridge Blazers in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior boys soccer quarter-final Wednesday.
Sydenham, fourth in the regular year at 4-1-2, got its other goal from Curtis Reilly. Josh Barrett scored for Bayridge, which did not face Sydenham this season en route to compiling a 4-2-1 mark.
In other senior quarter-finals Wednesday, Eric Freitas scored all four of his team's goals - two of them in extra time, the final one on a free kick - as the regular-season champion Holy Cross Crusaders squeaked past the Loyalist Lancers 4-2; the Frontenac Falcons blanked the Ernestown Eagles 1-0 and the Kingston Blues defeated the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers 1-0.
Loyalist, which grabbed the final playoff spot by winning three of its last four games after an 0-3 start, hung with the undefeated Panthers with goals by Kenta Imamura and Taylor Pettingill.
In a game played at Tindall Field, Oussama Hefnawi scored the game's only goal midway through the second half, in support of the shutout goalkeeping of KC's Pierre Boucher.
Tuesday's semifinals will send Sydenham to play at Holy Cross at 3:30 p.m., while KC will visit Frontenac at 5 o'clock. Related Articles:
