Kings look to snap three-game winless skid

Unlucky the past two weeks against some of the East division's weaker clubs, the Kingston Kings this week hope the challenge of hosting the division's best team sparks them to new heights Thursday, when the Cornwall Celtics visit Centre 70 for an 8 p.m. Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League game.
The Kings go into the contest 1-3-1, a log that includes a 12-12 tie with the Gloucester Griffins - the only game Gloucester hasn't lost in their last 36, dating to June, 2012 - and an 18-17 loss to the Huntsville Hawks, who came to Kingston Saturday with a 1-3 record.
In between the Kings bowed 9-5 to Whitby, a team that has since allowed 28 goals in two games to fall to 3-3.
The Celtics, meanwhile, come to town with a 4-1 record. The three-time East division champion, Cornwall defeated Kingston 10-2 in the season opener for both teams, and in their most recent game the Celtics became the first team this year to defeat first-place Peterborough, 13-5 on Sunday in a game where Matt Bourassa scored four goals and Brandon Perras had nine points.
Kingston has defeated Cornwall just once in three years, 5-4 at home in the opening game of the 2012 season, and is 1-15 in league and playoff competition since the Celtics entered the league in 2011.
Besides the desire to start balancing that ledger - it won't be easy; the Celtics have allowed just 22 goals (4.50 per game) this year; only once more than five - the Kings have the incentive to tidy up a dubious home record. Kingston is winless in three games at Centre 70 this year - four, including exhibition play. The Kings have won one game at home in their last nine league and playoff games, dating to last May 23.
Kingston's Zach Masterson goes into the game as the league's fifth-leading scorer, with 31 points in five games. The four players ahead of him have all played at least one more game. Josh Smith, with 15 goals and 22 points in just three games, stands third among the league's goal scorers and 10th among the points leaders. Defensively, however, the Kings have allowed 12.0 goals per game, second-most in the league.
Perras leads Cornwall with 11 goals and 23 points in five games, while Ryan Dewar has 13 goals and 20 points.
