Kings eliminated in Peterborough

PETERBOROUGH - The Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League season ended for the Kingston Kings Monday night with a 24-3 loss to the Peterborough Lakers, giving the Lakers a 2-0 victory in the best-of-three Far East division semifinal.
The Lakers, 14-2 in the regular year, will face the Cornwall Celtics, 13-3, in the best-of-five division final. The three-time defending division champion Celtics swept the Gloucester Griffins in two straight games in the other semifinal series.
The Kings, playing with just 13 runners, kept the game within reach until late in the first period. Four goals in the final seven minutes sent the Lakers into the intermission with a 7-0 lead and four more goals in the first three minutes of the second period took the lead to 11-0 before Bryce Drew scored Kingston's first goal. It was 15-1 after 40 minutes and, devoid of mercy, the Lakers poured in nine more goals in the third period.
Cole McWilliams had a point on each of Peterborough's first five goals, and though he didn't play the final 15 minutes of the game, he finished the game with 11 points, including two goals. Darian Jacobs, Riley Venton and Chris Clancy scored three goals apiece, while Colton Armstrong, Mike Cavanagh, Cam Crowe and Jake Mitchell each scored twice.
Thirteen different Lakers scored goals and every player - including both goaltenders - had at least one point.
Bryce Drew, Kaleb Bingley and Logan Rose scored for the Kings, who were playing their fourth game in six days. Josh Baker-Joyner had two assists.
The defeat brought to an end Kingston's most difficult junior season since 2010, when the Cavaliers finished the year 1-14 and were swept out of the playoffs by Clarington, which won the three games by a collective 61-3.
The Kings ended 2014 year on a 16-game winless streak, they failed to win a game at home all year (0-9-1) and they stretched a four-year-old playoff losing streak to 14 games.
During the regular season Peterborough won three of four games with Cornwall.
